Art, fashion and visual culture come together at Palazzo Reale Milano, which from 24 September 2026 to 31 January 2027 hosts "Dalí and Fashion", the major exhibition inaugurated during Milan Fashion Week. Novacolor contributed to the design of the exhibition spaces with a selection of surfaces and paints. These were chosen to accompany visitors throughout the exhibition and enhance the relationship between the artworks, light and architecture.
Curated by Judith Clark, the exhibition brings together more than 200 works from some of the world's most important international collections, including paintings, drawings, garments, photographs, jewellery, films and documents. The exhibition explores the connections between Salvador Dalí's work and the worlds of fashion, design and communication.
MATmotion Supreme: backgrounds free from light interference
MATmotion Supreme, in white and several different colour shades, was selected for the exhibition spaces to create uniform, controlled visual backgrounds. Its ultra-matt finish reduces reflections and light interference. This allows the artworks and installations to be viewed more clearly, while guiding visitors throughout the exhibition.
"The choice of MATmotion Supreme made it possible to create visual backgrounds free from light interference, allowing the artworks and installations to be viewed more clearly", comments curator Judith Clark.
Marmorino KS: a material surface that welcomes visitors
In the reception areas, the surface takes on a more distinctive role. Marmorino KS, a lime-based mineral finish, was selected for the exhibition entrance. It introduces a tactile, material dimension and defines the identity of the space from the visitor's very first encounter with the exhibition.
Materia Viva Mosaico: an expressive touch
Completing the project is a platform finished with Materia Viva Mosaico. This decorative finish interprets the surface through a distinctive material composition, adding a more expressive touch to the project and creating a dialogue between colour, texture and architecture.
A finish for every requirement
The variety of solutions reflects an approach in which each finish responds to a specific requirement of the space. It is neutral when the artwork needs to take centre stage, colourful when it helps define the exhibition route, and more tactile when it becomes part of the identity of the space itself.
"Taking part in a project such as Dalí and Fashion means bringing the theme of surfaces into a broader cultural dialogue, where materials, colour and architecture all contribute to shaping the visitor experience", says Roberta Vecci, Group Business Lead & Artistic Director for decorative surfaces and floorings, San Marco Group.
