Material as a Language of Well-Being in the Gyrotonic Studio Project in Taipei

In the landscape of contemporary design, minimalism is undergoing a profound transformation. After years of uniform, cold, and abstract surfaces, a new design sensitivity is emerging—one that rediscovers the value of materiality, craftsmanship, and tactility. It is the era of artisanal minimalism, a form of minimalism that goes beyond mere subtraction, finding balance and beauty in lived-in surfaces and materials capable of evoking sensations.

In this vision, surfaces are not just neutral backdrops, but narrative tools of the project, capable of generating well-being, identity, and perceptual harmony.
A remarkable example comes from Taipei (Taiwan), with the new Gyrotonic Studio by LOHE Design, where artisanal minimalism is translated into intimate, concrete, and sensorial spaces thanks to the use of Novacolor finishes.

In the common areas of the center, the walls are coated with Archi+ Tadelakt, a decorative mineral lime-based plaster that reinterprets the ancient Moroccan technique in a contemporary key.

- Its velvety and enveloping surface provides warmth and tactility, breaking away from the rigidity of classic minimalism.
- The finish is breathable, natural, and sustainable—ideal for a design focused on comfort and well-being.
- Its iridescent shades, which change with the light, introduce a visual rhythm that interacts with the environment, giving the space depth and vitality.

The result is an architectural skin that goes beyond mere cladding, redefining the very perception of space, transforming movement and light into an integral part of the design.

In the restrooms, LOHE Design selected Wall2Floor, the microcement-based decorative system for continuous surfaces on walls and floors.

- With its seamless application, Wall2Floor ensures visual unity and spatial fluidity—key features of contemporary minimalism.

- The technical and durable surface guarantees longevity and functionality without compromising on aesthetic elegance.

- Its versatility makes it suitable for both residential and contract spaces, offering infinite possibilities for chromatic and material customization.

The Gyrotonic Studio project in Taipei thus interprets artisanal minimalism: an essential minimalism enriched by the sensory and artisanal value of materials. In this perspective, finishes such as Archi+ Tadelakt and Wall2Floor go beyond surface dressing to become design tools capable of translating material into identity, comfort, and emotion.
